Egypt - 02 Nights

Right after our memorable journey through Jordan, we headed to Egypt for a short yet incredible two-night stay. Our main goal was to witness the majestic Pyramids of Giza and the enigmatic Sphinx, followed by a serene Nile River cruise that provided a glimpse into Egypt's timeless beauty and vibrant culture.

Getting There

We flew from Amman, Jordan to Cairo, Egypt with Egypt Air, ensuring a seamless travel experience. For our stay, we chose the Barcelo Hotel Cairo, which offered a comfortable and convenient base for our explorations. After two nights immersed in Egypt’s wonders, we concluded our trip by flying from Cairo to Sharjah, again with Egypt Air.

The Egyptian Pound (EGP) is significantly weaker compared to the UAE Dirham (AED) and the US Dollar (USD), making Egypt a budget-friendly destination for travelers from these countries. As of now, 1 AED equals approximately 8.5 EGP, and 1 USD equals around 31 EGP, but exchange rates can vary, so check before your trip.

Accommodation

Since we went with a tour operator, hotels and transportation were taken care of.

  • Barcelo Cairo Pyramids was the hotel of choice. It was sufficient enough for us to spend 02 nights, and it also had an atm with currency exchange function. Very cool. Location did not matter much as we had a driver to take us to and fro.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in Cairo and a Magical Evening on the Nile

We arrived in the bustling city of Cairo, where our driver greeted us warmly at the airport and whisked us to the Barcelo Cairo Pyramids Hotel. After settling in, we began our Egyptian adventure with an unforgettable evening Nile River cruise. The soothing rhythm of the Nile combined with a delicious dinner set the tone for the night. The evening came alive with captivating performances, including traditional belly dancing and a dazzling tanoura show. The cruise offered a perfect introduction to Egypt’s vibrant culture, and we retired to our hotel, eagerly anticipating the journey ahead.

  • Day 2: Pyramids of Giza, Sakkara, and Memphis

The day began early with a hearty breakfast at the hotel before we set out to explore Egypt's most iconic landmarks. At the Giza Plateau, we stood in awe of the Great Pyramid of King Khufu, a true wonder of the ancient world, along with the pyramids of King Khafre and King Menkaure. The towering Great Sphinx, with its enigmatic gaze, added to the magic of the moment. After a satisfying shawarma lunch at a local eatery, we continued to the Step Pyramid of King Zoser at Sakkara, marveling at its architectural significance. The journey then took us to Dahshur, home to the fascinating Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid, and finally to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. Here, we explored the open-air museum, which houses impressive statues and artifacts. A visit to a papyrus workshop rounded off our packed and rewarding day before returning to the hotel for the night.

  • Day 3: Egyptian Museum, Coptic Cairo, and Departure

Our final day in Egypt started with a visit to the Egyptian Museum, home to an incredible collection of antiquities, including the treasures of King Tutankhamun. Walking among these artifacts was like stepping into a time machine that took us back to ancient Egypt. Next, we visited the Salah al-Din Citadel and the magnificent Alabaster Mosque, both offering breathtaking views of Cairo and an insight into Egypt's Islamic heritage. Afterward, we explored Coptic Cairo, where we visited the Hanging Church and the Church of St. Sergius, both rich in religious and historical significance. A traditional Egyptian lunch marked the perfect end to our trip before we headed to the airport to catch our flight to Sharjah.

Cost

We opted for a tour package for Jordan and Egypt together as one, below is the total cost of our trip in Jordan & Egypt, broken down into an estimation to the best of our calculation.

Final Thoughts, Tips and Advice

  • Check whether you require a visa to travel. For us, both Jordan and Egypt required visas.
Jordan visa was taken care of by the travel agency, but we had to apply for Egypt visa ourselves. If you plan to apply for Jordan visa yourself and also plan to visit Petra, look up the Jordan Pass. It may be a good option for you.

  • If you plan to deal in Cash, make sure to get your currency exchanged anywhere but the airports. Cards are accepted in majority of places, but we personally dealt in cash.

  • Compare your roaming packages or opt for an e-sim if it is cheaper than getting a sim card in Egypt. We were visiting both Jordan and Egypt so we decided to get a roaming package which turned out to be cheaper.

  • You can go for an e-sim package. When required, I opt for BNESIM. Use code G2GS9T2A and enjoy a €5 discount on all BNESIM products! https://apps.bnesim.com/?esim_app=1

  • We went during the end of November, and Jordan was cold. Much cooler than U.A.E. Make sure you bring a decent jacket. And if you plan to visit Wadi Rum, you will need more than a jacket as temperatures drop to single digits.

  • Egypt was not as cold as Jordan, the Sun was bright and weather was slightly hot at times.

  • Since we had a tour guide, we had plenty of flexibility with selecting the attractions. If you want to broaden your search, do look up the plethora of resources on the internet regarding Jordan.
